Description of the study

KTG is a cardiotocographic evaluation of the fetal heart rate. The result is obtained in the form of a record and a printout on paper. The graph records the fetal heart rate and the contractions of the uterine muscle that occur. The KTG test allows the doctor to determine whether sufficient oxygen is reaching the baby's body. If the pregnancy is progressing without complications, and the placenta is viable, uterine contraction does not cause a disturbance in the oxygen supply and the baby's heart is working properly. Particular indications for monitoring fetal heart function are in mothers who have diseases - diabetes mellitus, hypertension, heart disease, nephropathy - before pregnancy.
The KTG test is usually performed in the last trimester of pregnancy (from 40 weeks of pregnancy) in a physiological pregnancy or for medical indications .
The test takes about 20-40 minutes, and can be repeated or prolonged - it carries no risks, is painless and does not need to be preceded by preliminary tests or procedures.
