Preparation for the study
General
- The test material is blood.
- The patient does not need to be fasting.About 30 minutes before the test, it is advisable to drink a glass of water or bitter(unsweetened) tea.
Important
Samples brought from outside are not accepted for testing.
Description
This test detects infections with the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferii.
Borrelia burgdorferii is a bacterium transmitted by a tick. In humans, it can cause Lyme disease, which in its chronic phase is characterized by non-specific symptoms of the central nervous system, joints, or heart.
Reliable PCR diagnosis allows for the start of appropriate treatment.
The test can be performed 24 hours after the bite (up to a maximum of 2 weeks after the bite).
4 weeks after the bite, a Borrelia IgM antibody level should be performed.
